Help! Cruel and unusual punishment!!!

So, in order to explain the extent of cruelty, I need to start at the begining. My daughter Anissa was born in Jan 06. I weighed 225 after her birth. She was a 24 week preemie weighing in at 1lb 6oz. She had 1 heart surgery and 2 eye surgerie, numerous blood transfusions, infections, etc. After 5.5 months, she came home - pretty healthy except small and severe acid reflux. Since her birth it has been a struggle to make her gain weight, As for me, I spent 5.5 months in the hospital with her everyday eating pizza pizza cause it was the only thing I liked. ANd I gained 55 pounds! Since then, I have gone up and down by as much as 30 pounds.  I finally decided to try the Dr Bernstein diet (fabulous by the way) and in the last 6 weeks I have lost 32 lbs. Just when I thought things were looking up, we had a shock. We went to the pediatrician for my daughter and found out that she has lost more weight and is now about 15% below 0 on the growth chart. The doc said do whatever you need to to get her up to at least 25% on the chart. So, I went to my job and asked to make arrangements (I am a paralegal) and they agreed to let me work from 6am to 10am (which means I now wake up at 4:30). My husband gets up with my daughter and brings her to the restaurant (yes, you read it right, I own a restaurant - my hubby is the best indian chef around and that in itself is cruel punishment) Then I pick her up from there and I stop by Dr Bersteins office for my shots and weigh-ins, we then go home. When she naps, I do some work for my firm and when she goes to bed at nigh I do the same. YOu are probably wondering what all this has to do with the punishment well, here it is: I was doing so well, really in the groove, going to gym, got rid of all junk food and now the nutritionist is telling be to force feed my daughter all the stuff I can’t even smell without gaining weight. My fridge and cupboards are now overflowing with Hagen Daas ice cream, 35% whipping cream, cakes, cookies, pastries, croissants, cheeses, icing, real butter, french bread, pastas, alfredo sauce, sugar, pancakes, syrups, chocolate, candies, 8% fat yogurt, etc. So here I am with my salad - no dressing and all I can think about is warming ub a double chocolate browning, topping it with cookie dough ice cream, whipped cream, toffee, crumbles cookies and caramilk bar and marachino cherries galore! So I figure, if I fantasize about eating this, my daughter will love it so I made her some (although a small portion as she is only 2.5yrs old) and wouldn’t you know it - she said no - would not tough the stuff. SO I go to the fridge to see what else I could give her as a snack and when I came back to the table, she was eating my salad! Come on! I would laugh if it wasn’t so sad. And before I get a bunch of emails saying I am a bad mom - you should know that she does get her dairy, meats, fruits and veggies in but we try to make her eat high fat foods too.  She is 2.5 yrs old and weighs 19lbs. At this point - I don’t know what to do - I am going crazy seeeing all these items and then I go crazy a second time when she refuses it and goes for something  that is basically calorie free and fat free!

Please, someone help me out her - I would appreciate any suggestions (for either or both of us).

Wiiiiiiiiiii! Who would have thought?

Another early morning. At least It is a quiet one for now, as everyone else is still asleep. Scale is kind to me this morning and I am feeling fine.  I wanted to share one of my favourite weight loss secrets with you today: the Nintendo Wii. I know most of you may not be into video games but this one is more like a workout buddy. Especially if you have Wii Fit. This particular one has a balance board. You have approximtely 40 games you can play with Wii Fit. I love it. When you turn it one, it asks you who you are (usually you set up a Mii, which is a character that represents you). Then it will congratulate you if you are coming on without missing any days. If you did miss a or some days, it will give you a hard time. Then it weighs you, gives you a fitness test and then you can start with the real fun stuff. There are balance games like soccer, skiing, tighrope walking, etc. all on the balance board. The you have some yoga - great to tone down and create endurance. There are some strength exercises and finally, the aerobics exercises. There are severak step classes - which I love - great music, rythm and encouragement. There are also some hulahoop games and some running type games - hulahoop and stepping are the best for me to sweat a lot. Just this last week (since I got the game), I have been losing an average of 1lb per day. Keep in mind I was already losing about half to three quarters of a pound a day prior to that with my diet. It really has made a difference and I don’t feel like I am working out. Also, if you have Wii sports, you can also work out your upper body with tennis, baseball, golf, bowling, etc.

All I can say now is Wiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As my daughter would say, “The bestest gift ever”

Hi there!

First - welcome! I know how difficult it can be. On April 14 I was 285lbs - my heaviest. I was out of strength, out of breath and depressed. I had a visit with a lap band doctor that day. I was discouraged. He said it could take about 2 years before I get the surgery, plus another 2 years to lose the weight. So when I got home, I decided that I would do whatever I could to lose weight. From that day until May 25th, I lost about 10 lbs. An ok loss but not good enough for me, I was discouraged at the thought of spending the next 2 years trying to lose weight. Then, things changed. It was my Birthday and my hubby gave me the best gift ever. He gave me a Dr Bernstein plan. Paid for the whole thing so that I would get down to my goal weight and even got me a 1 year maintenance plan for after. I was apprehensive at first. I went to the clinic and they required many test to check my health and gave me a list of permissible foods and forbidden foods, as well as a recipe book. I followed the directions. Went in 3 times a week for shots and weigh-ins (about 10 mins). Today, June 27, less than 1 month into it and I have lost 20 pounds, an average of 5 lbs a week. My clothes are getting too big, I have energy and I feel so much better. My goal is to reach 150-130lbs by the end of the year although I think I will do it quicker. Many of you may be sceptical but this is the best I have ever seen. I take many supplements to make up for anything I may be lacking and fell better than ever. Now, I am just looking for some weight loss buddies. I even set myself a short term goal to encourage myself - I want to be 200lbs by the end of summer so I can go to an amusement park without having someone aske me if I surpass the weight limit. Definitely some major brownie points for my hubby!!! P.S. Is anyone else on the Dr Bernstein diet?

Free Weight Loss Group!

Hi Everyone!

I just stumbled upon this website and I have to say that I am super impressed and it came at just the right time. Like most of you, I am overweight. Like some of you, I have lost weight (over 100 lbs)in the past, and kept it off successfully. However, I got pregnant and gained 15 lbs. Then I went into preterm labour and had my daughter 4 months early. She weighed 1lb 6oz. The doctors did not believe she would survive and spent much time telling us this. That is when I went into a depression. I spent all day everyday in the hospital and didn’t bring a lunch - not very bright - I know. So I ate Pizza Pizza twice a day for 5.5 months. And I obviously gained tons of weight. Finally, my baby got well enough to come home and by then, she required so much care that I ate whatever and whenever I could. Now my daughter is doing better, and I am trying to get better too. Since I already know how to lose weight in a healthy way, while eating well and often, I thought I would share it with others, in the hope that it would keep me motivated. Therefore, I started a weight loss group for women. Ladies from Ottawa, Gatineau and surrounding areas meet at my home at least twice a week and we take our measurements, weight, have a group discussion, exchange recipes and tips, organize outings and exercise and we also share our goals and incentives. It is a great way to keep ourselves going. We started recently and I am happy to report that I have lost over 6 lbs at the last weigh in.

I would like to extend the invitation to any ladies interested in participating. We meet wednesdays and sundays at 2pm. I would also consider adding evening meetings if people are interested. Oh and before I forget, everything is free!
