Help! Cruel and unusual punishment!!!
So, in order to explain the extent of cruelty, I need to start at the begining. My daughter Anissa was born in Jan 06. I weighed 225 after her birth. She was a 24 week preemie weighing in at 1lb 6oz. She had 1 heart surgery and 2 eye surgerie, numerous blood transfusions, infections, etc. After 5.5 months, she came home - pretty healthy except small and severe acid reflux. Since her birth it has been a struggle to make her gain weight, As for me, I spent 5.5 months in the hospital with her everyday eating pizza pizza cause it was the only thing I liked. ANd I gained 55 pounds! Since then, I have gone up and down by as much as 30 pounds. I finally decided to try the Dr Bernstein diet (fabulous by the way) and in the last 6 weeks I have lost 32 lbs. Just when I thought things were looking up, we had a shock. We went to the pediatrician for my daughter and found out that she has lost more weight and is now about 15% below 0 on the growth chart. The doc said do whatever you need to to get her up to at least 25% on the chart. So, I went to my job and asked to make arrangements (I am a paralegal) and they agreed to let me work from 6am to 10am (which means I now wake up at 4:30). My husband gets up with my daughter and brings her to the restaurant (yes, you read it right, I own a restaurant - my hubby is the best indian chef around and that in itself is cruel punishment) Then I pick her up from there and I stop by Dr Bersteins office for my shots and weigh-ins, we then go home. When she naps, I do some work for my firm and when she goes to bed at nigh I do the same. YOu are probably wondering what all this has to do with the punishment well, here it is: I was doing so well, really in the groove, going to gym, got rid of all junk food and now the nutritionist is telling be to force feed my daughter all the stuff I can’t even smell without gaining weight. My fridge and cupboards are now overflowing with Hagen Daas ice cream, 35% whipping cream, cakes, cookies, pastries, croissants, cheeses, icing, real butter, french bread, pastas, alfredo sauce, sugar, pancakes, syrups, chocolate, candies, 8% fat yogurt, etc. So here I am with my salad - no dressing and all I can think about is warming ub a double chocolate browning, topping it with cookie dough ice cream, whipped cream, toffee, crumbles cookies and caramilk bar and marachino cherries galore! So I figure, if I fantasize about eating this, my daughter will love it so I made her some (although a small portion as she is only 2.5yrs old) and wouldn’t you know it - she said no - would not tough the stuff. SO I go to the fridge to see what else I could give her as a snack and when I came back to the table, she was eating my salad! Come on! I would laugh if it wasn’t so sad. And before I get a bunch of emails saying I am a bad mom - you should know that she does get her dairy, meats, fruits and veggies in but we try to make her eat high fat foods too. She is 2.5 yrs old and weighs 19lbs. At this point - I don’t know what to do - I am going crazy seeeing all these items and then I go crazy a second time when she refuses it and goes for something that is basically calorie free and fat free!
Please, someone help me out her - I would appreciate any suggestions (for either or both of us).
